Sounders is Family, History, and Power.
There are three reasons for the name, Sounders.
First, Oshkosh Rugby starts with the Men's Club that has been in Oshkosh since 1978. Their name is the Mighty Pigs. And, a Sounder is a Family.
Second, the word sound has a glacial history, the word begins in old English as 'sund' to mean swimming, and evolved to describe water features created by glacial movements digging out areas, and water filling in the new space. So, it can link us to the glacial history of Oshkosh and Wisconsin, represented by the many bays, inlets, and straits in Lake Winnebago, Butte des Morts, and Poygan.
And last, we link Sound to the power of the ice shoves that come off our lake and have been described as being as loud as trains.
We have been able to take these three concepts and borrow the new term to represent Oshkosh.
With you.
