In partnership through the Oshkosh Recreation Department, Oshkosh Youth Rugby provides assistance to maintain a local non-travel rugby league for Oshkosh and the surrounding area.
The Oshkosh Recreation Department is excited to offer our community the opportunity to participate in our Youth Flag Rugby League! The youth league is a non-competitive league whose goal is to teach the fundamentals to provide children of any experience level the opportunity to learn Rugby.
How will teams be determined? We will start by dividing teams up by school location first, then fill in the gaps based on a geographical location. There won’t be a “draft” and each child is guaranteed to play at least 50% of the time, all of the time! Transportation is not provided. In the event that there are too many players from the same school for one team, two teams will be created, dividing the number of players registered. Rosters will be between 5-9 players for the K-4th grade and 7-12 players for 5-6th Grade.
Team Commitment? Your team and your coach need you to attend all Game Dates. Roster sizes are based on a commitment to the team. Practices and Games will all be held on the same day. Starting week 2, within the two hours, each team will play in 2 or 3 15-min matches, with at least the first 45 mins consisting of practice time.
Who will coach the teams? Our sports leagues will rely on great volunteer coaches. Many times a parent, guardian, relative, or sibling (who is 21 years of age or older) will typically fill these roles. We will provide each of the coaches with lesson plans that you can work and build off of each week.
What is the focus of this league? Our leagues will be about skill development, building confidence, friendships, and teamwork. Exciting fast paced basic non-contact; Flag Rugby is a fun, all-inclusive way to introduce young children to the fundamental skills of rugby with a big emphasis on having fun! Flag Rugby allows everyone to touch the ball by passing and running! Flag Rugby is a coed sport that is easy to learn and requires no prior experience to play! At no time will your child be expected to travel out of the Oshkosh Area School District.

ORD Registration Opens in May

Groups: Grades 1-2 (Minis), 3-4 (Piglets), 5-6 (Piggies), 7-9 (Pigs)

In conjunction with the ORD summer clinic, OYR has additional programming available. On Wednesdays, Oshkosh Rec Department holds its Summer Flag Rugby Clinic. Oshkosh Youth Rugby then provides access to the state-based organization that allows clubs from different cities to compete in Saturday Tournaments.
Attend as few or as many Tournaments as you want. New players are encouraged to attend. These are NOT all star tournaments. Teams are split up evenly and the intent is to have kids experience playing kids from other programs. Everyone who attends tournaments will play.
There are scholarships available for financial need for Oshkosh Youth Rugby Registration.
Hello,
Wisconsin Youth Rugby is operating a grant opportunity for Schools in Wisconsin to provide Rugby Kits, balls and flags, to Physical Education Teachers who will implement flag rugby as a piece of their curriculum. The program also provides information about what ways rugby meets State of Wisconsin school curriculum standards.
Teachers can request the grant through filling out the form below. Keep in mind, it will likely take 6 months to go through the processing and get the items to the teacher.
Similarly, we can work with WYR or Oshkosh Rugby to provide people who know rugby to help at in-services, or even at the classes for some preliminary teaching of rugby in conjunction with the Phy. ed. teachers.
For viability, consider that Stevens Point School District has implemented rugby K-12.
If you have any questions let us know.
With you.
